PROJECT: Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta Flood Maps
PRODUCED FOR: California Department of Water Resources, Central District
STATUS: Completed
OBJECTIVE: To develop flood maps and a web site of flood emergency operations in the Delta.
SUMMARY: After the 1997 flooding in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta (Delta), the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) decided to develop a web site to keep agency and private individuals informed of conditions along Delta waterways. It was also decided that the site should be interactive so that up-to-the-minute changes could be entered from within the agency.
Development of the web site included digitizing maps of the 121 islands that make up the Delta. Levee markers were recorded using existing paper maps so that incidents could be spatially registered on the web site. Also, an area was included to enter photographs and video of the sites as needed. The GIC created an electronic form to facilitate the update procedure for the DWR. The form allows changes in Delta conditions to be uploaded through a menu driven GUI.
